How Meditation Has Changed My Life

Every week day for the past 2 years, I’ve done a daily practice with others virtually. Here’s how it works. I call the others on the phone, then one of us rings a bell to start and then again at the end, after 30 minutes. When we’re done, we each wish each other a wonderful day and go about our business.

During the 30 minutes, we each do our own practice. Sometimes I do all mindfulness meditation, sometimes I add in some meridian tapping and at times I’ve done some energy work on myself during the half hour. I always state my intention for who I want to be as the day unfolds.

Having this daily practice has probably been the most significant factor in helping me be my best. I never would have stuck with it so consistently if others hadn’t been involved. Just knowing others were waiting for my call each day made all the difference. We’ve been going for 2 years now and I can really see how it’s changed me.

Here’s what I notice: *Instead of helping me -get away from it all’, my practice helps me to show up for it all. I’m clearer about who I am, so I’m not so rocked by the world and others. I can let WAY more of life in and just BE with situations that before would have been very stressful or difficult.

*It gives me a daily reminder of a bigger picture of myself and who I am as a spiritual being. Instead of reacting like a pinball machine to things in my life, I actually feel as if I have choices.

*I feel healthier than ever. No colds or flu this year….

* Since I review my intentions every day, I am much more likely to act in congruence with them during the day after this reminder.

Having a daily practice has been very rich and rewarding and I heartily encourage people to design one for themselves and then create the support to make it happen.

Does Meditation Work The AMAZING Discovery in Human Consciousness That Will SHOCK You

Does meditation work… or is it all just a scam, fraud and foolish way to tap into your inner “Zen”? Are you searching for a way to be more grounded, centered, philosophically “freer” or simply more connected to yourself and those around you? If you have… there is no question you’ve at least contemplated the art and science of meditation.

As without… so within.

I know, I know. Sounds silly to quote some sort of estoric cliche after such a a powerful promise in the article title. But I did it anyway. Want to know why? Because when the Buddha said this so many centuries ago, it was as true then, as it is today. Your outer world is a reflection of your inner. Your actions are driven by your thoughts. The serenity you seek is NOT “out there”…..it’s actually “in here”..:-) And once you find it, the bubbling, bursting and brimming external world becomes as soothing, and silent as the world within.

That is the amazing discovery in human consciousness….and it’s available to ANYONE who chooses to look for it. (because it’s NOT far..:-) As a matter of fact, some would argue that peace, serenity and PERFECTION are your natural condition. Mine too. That stress and anger and anxiety are manufactured emotions that are truly not necessary, or important….or even, depending on what you believe, even really “there” at all.

Meditation, is the perfect state that brings EVERYTHING back into balance. It’s the staring into the void of emptiness that becomes bountiful (and beautiful) rather than lonely and alone. Once you learn to quiet your mind, and to CONCENTRATE on everything and nothing at all, the world sings an entirely different song. And to me, that’s an idea worth spreading!

(and there is NOTHING that will give you the freedom of thought, mind and spirit than learning there is FAR more to your life than meets the eye!)

Simply START by opening your mind, spirit [] & enhanced AWARENESS and ride the supernatural surfboard into the wild, wacky and wonderful world of the unknown..:-) It WILL rock Your WORLD…I promise..;-)

Yoga – Contraindications For Inversions

As we practice yoga poses we want to do also inversions. Most common inversions are the Headstand and the Shoulderstand. But there are not only those two poses which are the inverted asanas.

Any posture in which the head is below the heart is called an inversion. Whether you stand on your head, bend forward or bend back, if your head is below your heart, you are performing an inversion.

This also means that Downward Facing Dog, Standing Forward Bend and Fish pose are also inversions; although those poses are mild in comparison to a Headstand. The Camel pose can also be an inversion if you bend back far enough.

Remember – inversions are not for everyone!

Your intentions should be clear when you perform any yoga posture. If the risks may outweigh the benefits there is no logical reason why you should practice any pose which can harm you.

Contraindications for practicing inversions:

If you have any of the following conditions, please omit inversions or work with a qualified and experienced teacher who will never put you at risk and tried to modify your practice.

Anyone who has high blood pressure, heart related problems, eye issues, neck problems, epilepsy, previous stroke or sinus problems should never practice Headstand or Shoulderstand, and omit other mild inversions or be adjusted by the yoga teacher.

During any stage of pregnancy yoga should be practiced in a prenatal yoga classes specifically designed for that purpose or privately with a qualified pregnancy yoga teacher.

During menstruation Headstand and Shoulderstand preferably should be omitted and other milder inversions should not be hold for long, but because of the controversy about the inversions during menstruation it is your personal choice. Let your body guide you.

If you are a yoga teacher explain to your students why the inversions can be dangerous for them if they have any of the condition mentioned earlier.

Why not stand on your head when you have pain in your neck or neck injury? What first thing will come to your mind as you there? Ouch … my neck! Can my small neck carry my whole weight as I am inverted?

Most students put lots of weight on their head and neck instead of shoulders. Use your common sense and listen to your body. Intuition will never let you down.

Why omit headstand if I have high blood pressure? Because the danger is when your blood pressure increase from 100/60 mm Hg while standing on your feet to 150/110 mm Hg or even higher when you go for headstand.

Practice Meditation for Getting Relief from Pain

As per common norms, only those who wish to alleviate psychological problems such as depression, stress, anxiety and similar problems practice meditation. However, the truth says an altogether different story as now meditation-based therapies are being used increasingly in medical centres and clinics to manage pain and cure physical illnesses. >

It is an age-old practice that helps people gain mental, physical and emotional balance thus helping to keep pain at bay. Researches have proved that regular practitioners of meditation experience lower pain sensitivity as compared to non-meditators. This happens because Meditation lowers stress chemicals such as cortisol and adrenaline and increases good chemicals such as endorphins that help maintain the overall health and wellness thus assuaging pain, anxiety and depression. Meditation works to focus the mind on other places and feelings other than what you are feeling at the current moment and this helps to alleviate pain. The feelings of pain are more than physical; they are both emotional and mental feelings. Meditation for pain relief works by taking the mind and focusing it on something other than the feelings of pain within the body. This helps to diminish the feeling of pain.

When pain occurs, one has to deal with elevated blood pressure and anxiety. Meditation in reality helps to brings down the blood pressure and reduces the level of anxiety. This can prevent intensifying the pain while helping people deal with the pain in a better way.

Meditation for pain relief is worth giving a try because besides providing relief from pain it can also improve your physical, mental and emotional well-being in many other constructive ways as well. Though, you may not get immediate relief from your pain, but practicing meditation over a period of time can allow you to control the pain and feel its intensity diminishing gradually as meditation helps in improving flexibility and breathing, thereby reducing pain and stress and in maintaining overall health.

While meditating a person’s brain is too busy to experience the pain. In fact, meditation changes the structure of the brain considerably to reduce pain and thus helps to yoke the control of the mind. You do not have to spend endless hours meditating in order to manage your pain. A few minutes each day can prove to be blessing in disguise for you.

Since, pain brings with it stress and depression, it is important that you first control your mind, so that you can divert your attention from pain to something else, which can be possible only through meditation.

Meditation As A Tool Of Success

Much has been said and written about the benefits of meditation especially in the religions of the East. Vishwas Mahale begins his chapter on meditation in his book, The Success with a quote from the Buddha. In todays fast paced materialistic world where we push ourselves to extreme limits in order to succeed, it is very important that we preserve all that we hold dear. In todays cut throat competitive world, we must not lose those values which form the very basis of humanity. One cannot be successful by compromising on ones health or peace of mind, nor can it be achieved by neglecting ones responsibility towards ones family. It is even more important that we keep alive the love amongst our near and dear ones in this materialistic world.

One cannot think properly if ones mind is burdened with stress induced anxiety, nor can one exercise proper self discipline if the mind is under constant strain. In order to succeed in life and live with zest, ones mind should be free from all kinds of anxiety and depression. How does one minimize and gradually erase tension from ones life? Vishwas offers the best solution to beat stress- meditation. Though the act of meditation is primarily related to religious practices, it should be by no means confined within such boundaries. Meditation helps to clear ones mind of all kinds of stress which results in a creative outburst; it also has a positive effect on ones health.

There are a lot of benefits that arise from the act of meditation apart from the ones mentioned above, it brings about a change in ones life that help improve ones lifestyle. The benefits do not end here, ones near and dear ones are also touched by the positive holistic change that is brought about as a result of meditation. In the field of work, meditation helps one to ameliorate ones leadership skills. All great leaders of the past from Attila the Hun to Martin Luther King jr., used to meditate and Vishwas cites the example of these eminent personalities from the past.

One of the best things about this book is that unlike other books where authors are happy to just preach about the benefits of meditation, Vishwas elucidates the proper technique of practicing meditation. One of the most crucial aspects of meditation is that it would not be of any benefit to an individual if it is not practiced with the proper technique.

Things You Need To Know Before Your First Yoga Class

Thinking of starting yoga? Bet your body has been yearning for this for some time now. Everyone has their reasons for doing yoga; losing weight, release stress, maintaining good health both mind and body. Whatever your reason is for starting yoga, have fun with it. It is also important to know a few things before undertaking this new activity that will improve your health and here are some:

It is all about you: Even if you are in a class of ten people, this is your time to discover your body and mind. It involves making somewhat awkward body movements, such as being upside down or curving your back! Let yourself go and just explore your inner strength.

Notify your instructor if you need special attention: This is basically if you are pregnant, have terminal illnesses, injury or a condition that may be affected by the type of exercises that yoga involves. Yoga does not have a particular way of how it is done; there are different techniques and poses for different bodies. Therefore, your instructor will know what suits you best.

Follow instructions: Some of the postures you will be required to do might be challenging, actually they are quite tough. You may find it easier to twist or modify the posture to be more comfortable, but this should be avoided because you are risking getting injury that could take a sometime to heel.

Beware, it is addictive: Compared to other exercises, yoga is special. From the technique it uses to the several health benefits it has to your body, your body is left feeling incredible. This makes you want it even more and cannot afford to miss any session!

Go on an empty stomach: It will almost be impossible for you to do yoga on a full tummy. Remember most of the time you will be stretching into postures, which can be very uncomfortable for you if your stomach is full. If you think you cannot make it till the end of the session, take a snack at least half an hour before the class; a light snack.

Do not compete, enjoy! Have fun during yoga class, even if it may take some time to grasp those postures. Take one posture at a time and you can even practice it when you are idle, during your lunch break and before you sleep. You will be a pro in no time!
